Heat Today will be hot in the south of the Netherlands: up to 32 degrees! Check whether your reservoir is still full, whether the mix is still moist, shade vulnerable plants around midday, and wait with sowing until it cools down.
The Planty Garden in May
Set up your garden now, and harvest you first vegetables within a month.
Go to: Starting in May
Already growing?
Radishes, spinach, and lettuce for delicious salads, pak choi, and turnips for a stir-fry. Fresh from your own garden 😀
Vegetables and herbs that are flowering now give color and life to the garden. Visited by bees and bumblebees 😀
Until then:
- germinate and pre-sow your zucchinis, cucumbers, and pumpkins
- re-pot tomatoes to a larger pot
- lovingly tend to the plants on the window sill
- get them accustomed to the open air from mid-May onwards
- move them to their final spot in the garden at the end of May
Tips for May
- Set up your garden with quality and durable materials. Investing in them will give you a better result and years of enjoyment.
- Water regularly when the weather is dry. Especially for small plants and seedlings: their roots are still small. Also, check just under the top layer of soil mix to see if it's still moist.
- Start harvesting as soon as you can. Leafy vegetables are best when they are still young.
- Take good care of your pre-sown summer vegetables on the window sill: Place them in full light - but be careful it's not too hot - and water them regularly. To prevent them from growing too fast and crooked, give the pots a quarter turn every day.
- Transplant your tomato plants to a larger pot - or MM-mini - with MM-mix. This will give them the nutrition and space to grow up sturdy.
- Summer vegetables cannot withstand cold. Therefore, only allow them to get used to the open air after mid-May and then plant them outside.
