Already got a Planty Garden?

Growing already? Then you'll feast on plenty of summer vegetables this month. Tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini, beans. The pumpkins are turning orange and will be ready to harvest before you know it.

The trick is to take care of your plants so you can enjoy them as long as possible. And sow any empty patches right away with vegetables you can harvest well into fall and even winter.

Tips for September*

1. Water regularly: ideally every day when the weather is sunny and dry. Also, check if the soil mix just under the surface is still moist.

2. Harvest on time and a lot. You're not doing it just for a delicious dinner, it also extends your harvest. When you pick its leaves or flowers, a plant produces more and more.

3. Harvest all your older leafy vegetables so those patches are empty again. Sow some new plants that can handle colder fall weather.

4. When the weather is damp, keep up the snail hunt: they'll be out in full force. And watch out for white butterflies. These are Cabbage Whites that like to lay their eggs on plants from the cabbage family. Dino kale in particular.

5. Keep an eye on your tall plants and give them support if they need it. Tie your climbing zucchini to the trellis regularly. The same goes for your sunflowers. You can easily weave cucumbers and pumpkins through without ties. Stick some bamboo in the soil mix next to your low tomatoes to keep them stable.

6. Top your tall tomatoes and cut off ugly-looking leaves. And remove leaves are shading the fruits of your summer vegetables: they need more direct sun to ripen. Keep an eye out for fungal diseases like mildew and blight.

* To sum it up, follow the advice in the Planty Gardening app. It covers all these tips 😉

What can you still sow now?

A lot of people think that you can't sow much this time of year, but nothing could be further from the truth. Sow now for your fall and winter crops, and for an early spring harvest.

You can sow any of these:
