August in the Planty Garden

Mid-summer in the Planty Garden. Good weather, daily harvests, and just enjoying being outside. Now you'll sow vegetables to harvest in fall and winter. And if you don't have your garden set up yet, it's not too late to get started 🙂.

Already got a Planty Garden?

Growing already? Then you'll get to feast on plenty of vegetables this month. Tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini, beans. Everything grows fast and you'll harvest a lot. Often so much that you can't eat it all yourself.

The trick is to take care of these plants so you can enjoy them as long as possible. You can immediately sow any empty patches with vegetables that you'll harvest well into fall and even winter.

LOTS of cucumbers😁

Tips for August*

1. Water regularly: in sunny and dry weather preferably every day. Also, check if the soil mix just under the surface layer is still moist.

2. Harvest on time and a lot. You're not just doing it for a delicious dinner, it also extends your harvest. When you pick its leaves or flowers, your plant produces more and more.

3. Harvest patches completely that have older leafy vegetables in them. Then sow vegetables there that can handle colder fall weather.

4. When the weather is damp, keep up your snail hunt: they'll be out in full force. And watch out for white butterflies. These are Cabbage Whites that like to lay their eggs on plants from the cabbage family. Dino Kale in particular.

5. Keep an eye on your tall plants and give them support if they need it. Tie your climbing zucchini to the trellis regularly. The same goes for your sunflowers and tall tomatoes. Cucumbers and pumpkins are easy to weave through the trellis without ties. Stick some bamboo in the soil mix next to your low tomatoes to stabilize them and keep them from falling over.

6. Tomatoes, zucchini, pumpkins, and cucumbers are hungry. So, give them half a scoop of MM-Plantfood every 4-5 weeks.

Kun je nu nog zaaien?

Veel mensen denken dat je in deze tijd bijna niets meer kunt zaaien, maar niets is minder waar. Voor sommige groentes is het nu juist de ideale tijd.
