How do you get the vegetable garden mix?

Makkelijke Moestuinmix is the key to your vegetable garden's success. It contains everything vegetables need to grow well.

Makkelijke Moestuinmix in raised beds
Makkelijke Moestuinmix
If you want a real Makkelijke Moestuin, there is no getting around it.

By using this mix, even large plants have enough room in a 30 cm square, and you can harvest a lot from a small area.

No need to replace it

You only need to fill your raised bed once, because Makkelijke Moestuinmix lasts a long time. I have been using mine for over 10 years.

Of course, you do need to add plant food now and then. Use our MM plant food for that.

If the mix sinks over time, top up your raised bed with a little fresh mix. And with some of your own compost, if you have it.

So Makkelijke Moestuinmix is much cheaper and more sustainable than potting soil or other soil mixes, and your plants grow better in it too.

Ready-made bags of Makkelijke Moestuinmix

Since 2012, I have sold ready-made bags of Makkelijke Moestuinmix. Super quality.

You can find them in the shop. There is also a calculator there to work out how many bags you need.

Picking up bags

There are quite a few pickup locations where you can collect bags of MM-mix. On the map, you can see whether there is one near you.

Can you make MM-mix yourself?

No, our own recipe is too complicated, and I am not going to reveal it ;) But it is based on the original Square Foot Gardening recipe, and that is what I used when I started.

You can make that mix yourself, but it is quite a hassle. And when you make it yourself, you never know completely whether there is enough nutrition in it. Or whether the acidity is right. The ingredients are also hard to find, especially vermiculite.

Different soil?

Then you are not making a Makkelijke Moestuin. The app and the whole Makkelijke Moestuin system are built around Makkelijke Moestuinmix.

So I cannot guarantee success if you use different soil. I strongly advise against it.
