Starting a Makkelijke Moestuin (Planty Garden) can be done from February to November.
You can start from February until November
Why starting in October can still be fine
- In October, you can still sow or plant some vegetables: from garlic to winter lettuce, from kale to spinach. For 8 of our seed varieties, it is now the right time. With some protection - like a cover for your vegetable garden bed - even more is possible:
Why starting in June is so much fun
- From the varieties you sow now, you can harvest some at the beginning of winter, while others can be harvested extra early in spring.
- Some of our vegetables can withstand severe frost and can even be harvested in the middle of winter:
- From mid-September, you can plant garlic cloves and winter onions. Then they'll have enough time to establish well and you can harvest them next year.
These types can be sown (or planted) now.
You can still sow:
- kale
- radish
- spinach
- winter pea (for sprouts)
- winter purslane
- winter lettuce
- yellow winter onions (bulbs)
- red winter onions (bulb)
- garlic
- endive
- turnip
- Asian salad mix (for mizuna and mustard seed)
- arugola
- lamb's lettuce
