Meer over onze knoflook

Growing garlic is super simple: you plant some cloves in the mix in autumn and harvest the bulbs in summer. Perfect for the empty spaces that become available in autumn.

We grow a variety that can withstand the winter cold and produces large, healthy bulbs.
  • Variety name: Messidrome 40/50
  • Family: carrot
  • Number of plants per space: 9
  • Height: 50 to 60 cm
  • Planting time: mid-September to mid-November
  • Planting depth: about 5 cm deep
  • Harvest time: from early June
  • Comes up between 5 and 21°C in 7 to 14 days
  • Preferably in full sun

Note: the garlic bulbs are fresh and cannot be stored for long. Therefore, we only sell them temporarily and while supplies last.

What is special about our garlic?

This variety - Messidrome - is a fairly large, white garlic with a mild sweet taste. That makes it very suitable for all kinds of dishes, both raw and for cooking or baking.

That is why this variety is widely used and cultivated in France. Also because it grows without problems and yields a high harvest.

Planting Garlic

Plant the garlic cloves between mid-September and mid-November. The bulbs are fresh, so it's best to plant them as soon as possible after receiving them.

Growing garlic is super simple. You can also find the instructions in our app. In short, here's what you need to do:

  1. Choose a spot in full sun - or use a MM-mini and place it in a sunny location.
  2. 9 plants fit in one spot. So, make 9 holes about 5 cm deep and place the cloves in them. Then, give them some water.
  3. During winter, the plants hardly grow, so you don't need to do anything. However, provide them with some protection against harsh weather and severe frost. For example, with a MM-cover.
  4. Give some extra MM-plantfood in early spring, so not during planting. Around that time, the days become longer, the temperature rises again and the foliage starts to grow well.
Harvest the bulbs when the foliage is already turning yellow: between the end of June and the end of August. Then the diameter of the bulbs is approximately 4-6 cm.

What do you use garlic for?

Garlic is super healthy, so I would say: in almost everything.

It goes well with all kind of dishes: meat, fish, vegetables, sauces, salads, marinades. Personally, I love garlic butter, fried potatoes with onions, mushrooms and garlic, French, Italian and Eastern dishes - they can't do without it - and so on.

In short: a kitchen without garlic? Then it's not mine 😉
