Vegetables for a trellis
For Makkelijke Moestuin, we choose vegetables and herbs that are easy to grow and produce a generous harvest in little space. They need to work well in raised beds divided into 30 × 30 cm squares.
Tall and climbing vegetables often produce even more than low-growing crops. That is why many of our raised beds can be fitted with a trellis.

- Climbing courgette: a compact courgette that can be tied to a trellis, so it only needs one square.
- Snack cucumber: a fast-growing variety that produces lots of fruit and can be sown as late as July.
- Cherry tomato: long trusses of sweet cherry tomatoes.
- Romano pole bean: long, broad, flat and juicy pods.
- Bacon bean: a productive climbing bean with long, tender, fleshy pods.
- Snow pea: a strong, reliable variety that keeps growing and produces a large harvest.
- Baby pumpkin: fruits measuring about 15 to 20 cm, ideal for growing up a trellis.
