More about our Perlite
That's why it's perfect for use at the water reservoirs.
How do you use perlite?
Mix it all together well so the perlite is nicely distributed. After that, you can just start planting in your box.
When perlite is heated to about 850-900 °C, the water inside expands and it puffs up into a light, porous material. Think of it like popcorn. If you make small granules out of it, you can mix them really well into the MM-mix.
The granules are white, super light, and hold moisture pretty well. But because they're porous, they also hold a lot of air. And plant roots really love that 🙂
- Water from the reservoir is absorbed evenly
- The mix stays airy, even when it's wet from a lot of rain
- Excess water can easily drain away, preventing root rot
And because the mix stays more airy, you're less likely to have issues like algae and moss forming on the surface of your container.
And because the mix becomes looser, it will be more pleasant to work in. Moreover, you will have less trouble with algae and moss formation when the weather becomes wet and dark.
Keep in mind that perlite holds quite a bit of moisture, but also drains well. So you may have to water just a little more often in dry times. Something you only have to do once in a while when using the water reservoirs.
