Vegetables with superpowers
Many of our vegetables look quite ordinary but have remarkable qualities. Our courgette grows upwards on a trellis, for example, and our radishes become enormous.
Dino kale needs just one 30 x 30 cm square. Its relative, curly kale, can easily take up a whole square metre.
You can harvest shoots from our peas in winter, New Zealand spinach grows in the height of summer, and winter purslane can be harvested all year round.

Pick-and-come-again vegetables
I would rather pick leaves from several different plants than harvest 20 identical heads of lettuce at once. Because the plants keep growing, I can harvest more from them over a longer period.
The earlier you begin picking, the longer you can continue. This applies not only to lettuce, but also to mangetout, beans, courgettes and tomatoes.

After your first growing season, you can always experiment with other vegetables. Apart from a few herb plants, however, I still grow only our own varieties.
