The Planty Gardening System

A Planty Garden works ridiculously well for a reason. You can't compare it with any old raised bed with some seeds thrown in.
It's a whole system, and all parts work together.
Our growing method is based on the Square Foot Gardening approach. We've taken it to the next level.

A different vegetable for every patch

Our garden boxes are divided up into 30x30 cm patches. One of these mini-garden plots can grow 1 kale, 4 heads of lettuce, or 16 carrots.
You don't sow in rows like in a traditional garden (and then have to thin out 90% of your seedlings). Instead, you sow only the seeds you need and give your plants the exact amount of space they need.

Level Up

An important part of the system is knowing where to plant which vegetables. They grow best in height order. You start with shorter plants in the front, the medium in the middle, and tall ones in the back.

This way your plants are never overshadowed. And they all get the space and sunlight they need.

(Tip: A trellis - the MM-Klimrek) at the back of the garden box helps guide the tall ones and climbers).

Sow, harvest, sow Again

You get to harvest early and often. And as soon as you empty a patch, you can sow something new.
There's no need to leave a vacant space. Your garden boxes are always ready to grow.

Crop rotation

Putting the same type of vegetable in the same patch one right after another isn't a great idea - your plants can get sick.
A traditional vegetable garden needs you to change the type of plant in the beds once a year: this is called 'crop rotation'.
But because a Planty Garden mixes everything up, you don't have to worry about that.
With the Planty system, you put lots of different types of plants into one garde box. This gives you a varied harvest and naturally fends off diseases and pests.

Caring for your plants

Some vegetables need more attention than others.
For many plants, just giving them some water is enough. But other species require a little more care. For example, tomato plants need to be pre-seeded, zucchini needs extra nutrients, and beets and carrots need to be thinned out.
"But Jelle, how do I remember all this?"

You don't have to. We've got you covered 😉
