How do you grow dill?
- poke 4 holes in the patch (no deeper than 1 cm)
- put 2 to 3 seeds in each hole
- gently close the holes
They probably won't all come up at the same time, but after another week, most of them should have sprouted.
Then it's time for thinning out. It's tough to do - but if you don't, none of the plants can grow well, and you won't be able to harvest optimally.
Note: dill has deep taproots and absolutely cannot handle being transplanted.
You can keep harvesting leaves until the plants start looking bad, which usually happens well after blooming, around August or September.
Wat heb je nodig?
- a spot in an MM-garden box
- Makkelijke Moestuin mix
- a place with at least 6-8 hours of sunlight per day
How do you use Dill?
A few ideas:
- as a garnish for soups or roasted vegetables
- in cold (cucumber) salads
- in potato salads or on baked or roasted potatoes
- with smoked salmon
- in yogurt dips such as tzatziki
- to season fish, lamb or egg dishes
- in all kinds of (dip) sauces, marinades or salad dressings
- to flavor potato, chicken or tuna salads
Use dill leaves primarily in cold dishes, as it quickly loses its delicious flavor when heated.
Is Dill healthy?
It also contains vitamin B1, B2, B3, B5, and B11 (folic acid) and the minerals iron, manganese, copper, potassium, magnesium, phosphorus, zinc, and calcium. Great for strong bones.
Pretty nice bonus, right?
