Since the beginning of Makkelijke Moestuin in 2008, we've gardened in various raised beds. From scaffolding boards to high-quality douglas wood and hardened boards. Yet, they all eventually deteriorated.
A vegetable planter faces harsh weather conditions, often wet inside and dry outside. This causes it to warp faster than, say, a wooden fence.
It's frustrating when your planter warps, rots, or falls apart just as you're getting into gardening. It's even dangerous when a planter on legs has to support up to 300 kg of wet soil.
We were done with these issues. So we designed a planter that can handle everything: the MM-hero.

After working with various manufacturers, we discovered that to achieve the quality we're looking for, we needed to make it ourselves. Only then can we continuously improve our products until they meet the high standards we aim for. And we can still offer that quality at a reasonable price. Every Makkelijke Moestuin product comes from our hands, from design to the moment it leaves our door as an order. These MM-hero planters are a perfect example. They don't break, work 100% with our entire system, and everyone who uses them is absolutely delighted. One-time Investment

Recycled Plastic
Our MM-hero planters made from recycled plastic have solid boards: they're 3 cm thick. A 120 cm board weighs 7.5 kilos. They last forever.
They're made from the most challenging type of waste plastic there is. With just one planter, you're helping to clear up the equivalent weight of plastic waste that normally can't be recycled and ends up in incinerators. To visualize this: it's like a 50m² room, filled to the ceiling with plastic waste, compressed into a single planter. We're incredibly proud to be helping tackle the plastic problem while turning it into a beautiful product.
Because the boards are pressed at high temperatures, this material has been thoroughly tested and found completely safe. Both for the environment and for you.
Hardened Bamboo
These heavy boards are made from compressed bamboo. The material lasts at least 20 years, especially when oiled annually.
Sustainably harvested bamboo also prevents (tropical) deforestation, as it lasts longer than hardwood and grows 10x faster than trees. Moreover, it absorbs up to 5x more nitrogen and produces 35% more oxygen in the process.
The material is also 100% safe and meets the strictest EU standard available (EN 717 / E1).
Stainless Steel
For the base, legs, and all connecting materials - like corner pieces, nuts, and bolts - we use thick and sturdy stainless steel in our MM-hero planters.
This ensures your planter truly lasts forever. And you can even disassemble and reassemble it when you move house, for example.
Snail Electric Fence
In a Makkelijke Moestuin, you don't have much trouble with snails. Our app gives you tips to prevent them as much as possible, and the table model, with its steel legs, keeps almost all snails away.
However: if you live in an area with an EXTREME snail problem, it could really spoil your gardening fun. That's where our snail electric fence comes in: when a snail touches two wires, it gets a small shock and turns away.
Until now, there hasn't been a truly effective solution against snails. That's why we created this electric fence. Whether you're dealing with slugs, snails, small ones or large ones: this device keeps (almost) all of them away. Making gardening fun again, even during a snail invasion.

Water Reservoirs
Our water reservoirs serve two functions:
- they form a strong base
- they provide your plants' roots with both moisture and air
These strong, waterproof containers hold 15 liters of water, meaning you only need to water occasionally - even during long dry spells. If too much water gets in - for example during endless rain - it flows out through holes in the sides of the container.
Above the water is an air layer that prevents the mix from getting too wet and rotting. Four wicks draw the water up into the mix.
We make these hollow reservoirs ourselves, from sturdy LLDPE plastic. This means they can withstand both heat and frost, are 100% food-safe and easy to recycle. Plus, they're incredibly strong.
Plant Support Trellis
Vertical trellises are an essential part of the Makkelijke Moestuin. You can tie tall vegetables to them, while pole beans and peas climb up by themselves. This way, they take up much less space than usual.
Made from sturdy scaffolding pipe with galvanized cast iron connectors and brackets. This makes the trellis extremely stable, wind-resistant, and able to withstand both heat and cold.
The included netting has convenient 10 by 10 cm mesh, is made from UV-resistant material, and will last for years to come.

We created the Makkelijke Moestuin app exclusively for our system, perfectly aligned with and working seamlessly with our products.
When you buy an MM-hero, you add it to the app and receive exactly the right notifications. For example, with water reservoirs you'll get occasional reminders to check the water level. But for a planter without reservoirs, you'll get more frequent reminders to water.
Plus, the app knows everything about Makkelijke Moestuin seeds and guides you through every step - from seed to harvest. Always at exactly the right moment.
